Ukraine's trust in NATO allies has been undermined – Stoltenberg

The coordination of international military assistance to Ukraine should be reconsidered, the Secretary General of the Alliance noted.

Delays in the delivery of military aid from NATO member countries have affected Ukraine's confidence in them. Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this after a visit to Kiev, Reuters reported on Tuesday, April 30.

In his opinion, the coordination of international military assistance to Ukraine should be reconsidered.

“We need a stronger, institutional framework to support us, to ensure predictability, greater accountability and sharing of this burden,” Stoltenberg said.

He recalled that in recent months Ukraine has not received weapons from the United States, and this has affected the situation at the front.

“Of course, the fact that we did not fulfill what we promised undermines trust,” admitted the NATO Secretary General.

Stoltenberg recalled his idea of creating a multi-year plan of 100 billion dollars, where the contribution of each member of the Alliance to help Ukraine would be clearly defined.

And responding to concerns among some NATO members, he stressed that the money would be a “tiny fraction” of what the United States and its allies have spent in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“There we are talking about trillions, but in Ukraine we are talking about billions. But in fact, we are dealing with a real challenge to our security – a more aggressive Russia,” he emphasized.
