The EU Council imposed sanctions against Iran over the transfer of drones to Russia

The EU Council imposed new sanctions against 6 individuals and 3 legal entities over the transfer of drones to Russia for the war against Ukraine, as well as the supply of drones and missiles to terrorist organizations in the Middle East and the Red Sea region.

This is stated in a press release from the EU Council.

Restrictions apply to the following persons:

  • The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters (CHHA) is a body within the command structure of the Iranian armed forces that makes operational military decisions on the deployment of UAVs;
  • one of the commanders of the TsShHA;
  • Kavan Electronics Behrad LLC is an Iranian company that purchases and sells components for the production of UAVs.
  • CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kavan Electronics Behrad LLC
  • the navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), involved in the supply of Iranian weapons.

In addition, the Council decided to include Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Gharai Ashtiani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Qods Force (IRGC-QF) and the head of the EU-listed Iranian Aviation Industry Organization (IAIO) Afshin Haji on the sanctions list.

These individuals will be subject to an asset freeze and a ban on entry into the European Union. In addition, the provision of funds or economic resources directly or indirectly to or for the benefit of individuals or entities, organizations or bodies included in the list is prohibited, it said.
