Irbit resident charged with desecration of Eternal Flame

As the head of the city investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Sverdlovsk Region Oleg Semenov said, the defendant was walking around the city on the evening of January 11, wanted to smoke, but neither he nor passersby had matches or a lighter, and then the man decided to light a cigarette from the Eternal Flame.

"The suspect was identified during operational activities by detectives from the Center for Combating Extremism of the regional headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with detectives from the criminal investigation department of the Irbit police. Recordings from cameras helped them do this. The detainee has already repented and fully admitted his guilt," said Valery Gorelykh, head of the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The smoker was charged under Part 3 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The punishment for committing this crime is imprisonment for up to three years.
