Universities publish admission rules for 2025

By the way, after the publication of these documents, applicants and their parents almost had a nervous breakdown. Why? Along with other changes, they give universities the right to require the results of four Unified State Exams for admission, whereas until now most universities had three. They immediately started talking about the fact that four Unified State Exams would be requested primarily in technical universities – where, for example, both physics and computer science are important. Previously, these subjects were offered to applicants to choose from, and many chose computer science as an easier exam. Technical universities were not satisfied with this approach, as some rectors loudly stated last year.
And so, "four is possible." But there are only a few months left until the admissions campaign: most graduates have already decided on their choice of exams. Will they really have to prepare for another one?
By the way, only one university publicly announced the introduction of four USEs at that time – Bauman Moscow State Technical University. There, they wanted to establish USEs in Russian, mathematics, physics and computer science as entrance exams for almost three dozen groups of specialties.
Alarmed comments poured in on Baumanka's social network. And the university heard them. Rector Mikhail Gordin announced that admission to all specialties in 2025 will be carried out as before – based on three Unified State Exams. But the "leading" subject for most areas of training, in addition to Russian and mathematics, will be physics. In some areas – chemistry, biology or computer science. In some cases, a choice between subjects will be provided.
At least five months before enrollment on a fee-paying basis, the university must determine the maximum number of fee-paying places. And it will not be possible to increase them
Nevertheless, Baumanka remains "with its own": knowledge of both physics and computer science is necessary for successful study at the university. Therefore, the university decided to introduce this requirement in a test mode and only for applicants to fee-paying departments.
On the eve of the big day, Baumanka held an open day – outside of the schedule, specifically to explain everything to applicants. The main thing: physics is mandatory for the vast majority of engineering specialties. The opportunity to take physics or computer science as an alternative will remain only in branches, in the programs of the Military Training Center and in several programs in information technology in Moscow.
What else is important for applicants to know?
The 2025 Federal Admission Procedure has banned "unlimited" admission to fee-paying education. What does this mean? Previously, it was possible to expand the "admission plan" as requests were received, but now this is impossible. At least five months before enrollment on a fee-paying basis, the university must determine the maximum number of fee-paying places. And it will no longer be possible to increase them after that. So now a shortage of fee-paying places is possible, but an excess is not.
– Judging by everything, there will now also be a competition for fee-paying departments, – explained "RG" at MEPhI. – Why is this being done? It seems to us that it is for the convenience of working with "fee-paying" applicants within the framework of the super service "Online University Admission".
The deadline for accepting documents for paid education in 2025 has been extended until September 20, and enrollment itself until September 30.
By the way, MEPhI has already decided on the minimum Unified State Exam scores that are required to submit documents to the university.
– Based on the results of the 2024 admissions campaign, it was recorded that only a few of those admitted to MEPhI through the general competition have USE scores less than 75 in any of the core subjects (mathematics, physics, computer science, social studies, foreign language, history, chemistry) and less than 70 in Russian, – the university noted. – Therefore, a decision was made to set the following minimum scores for the budget in 2025: 70 – Russian language, 75 – any other core subject. The threshold values for fee-based education will be 5 less: 65 – Russian language, 70 – any other core subject.
What else is important? To enroll, you no longer need to bring the original certificate or other educational document. It is enough to have consent to enrollment, which is submitted electronically. This is convenient: you do not need to run around universities with the original.
Those who are going to enroll in targeted training can receive additional points for individual achievements if they participate in various events organized by their future employer.
The main dates of the admissions campaign: June 20 – acceptance of documents, July 15 (not earlier) – the end of acceptance of documents to universities that have their own entrance examinations (for example, Moscow State University), July 25 – the end of acceptance of documents from all other applicants.
