Let us recall that the first eight teams out of 36 advanced directly to the 1/8 finals. These are Liverpool (England), Barcelona (Spain), Arsenal (England), Inter (Italy), Atletico (Spain), Bayer (Germany), Lille (France), Aston Villa (England).

The teams ranked 9th to 24th will play a preliminary round in the playoffs. They are Atalanta (Italy), Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Real Madrid (Spain), Bayern (Germany), Milan (Italy), PSV (Netherlands), PSG (France), Benfica (Portugal), Monaco (France), Brest (France), Feyenoord (Netherlands), Juventus (Italy), Celtic (Scotland), Manchester City (England), Sporting (Portugal) and Club Brugge (Belgium).

The following teams have completed their participation in the European Cups: Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia), Stuttgart (Germany), Shakhtar (Ukraine), Bologna (Italy), Crvena Zvezda (Serbia), Sturm (Austria), Sparta (Czech Republic), RB Leipzig (Germany), Girona (Spain), Red Bull Salzburg (Austria), Slovan (Slovakia), and Young Boys (Switzerland).

The main intrigue of the eighth round was whether Manchester City, which occupied the 25th place after seven matches, would be able to get into the playoffs. To do this, the Citizens had to beat the Belgian Brugge on their home field. The Englishmen managed to do this, although not without nerves. The visitors opened the scoring, but Josep Guardiola's team still managed to turn the game around.

The preliminary round playoff matches will be held on 11/12 and 18/19 February 2025.
