Video of Ukraine's First Use of FAB-500 Bomb Analogue with UMPK Appears

The aircraft that used the new weapon belongs to the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade. The bombs in the frame weigh 1,000 pounds (approximately 460 kilograms). Previously, the United States supplied the Ukrainian Armed Forces with only 500-pound bombs of this type weighing about 230 kg, reported "Military Informant" .

The Mark 83 JDAM-ER is a rough analogue of the Russian FAB-500 UMPK. The US followed a similar path, using attachments to turn old free-fall bombs into guided, high-precision ones.

The design of the planning module is somewhat different, so the bomb's flight range is limited to 45 kilometers.

In the photo published by the Ukrainian Air Force, the technician is wearing a summer uniform, and there is green grass behind the plane. It is quite possible that the photo was taken from an archive and the soldier is leaving an autograph on a 500-pound bomb – they look identical.

Or the Ukrainian Armed Forces waited six months before showing off their new weapons. But that's not like them at all.
