WP: US authorities have asked firefighters who fought the fire in Los Angeles to resign

Published: in News by .

An offer to resign with some compensation has been sent to most US federal employees to encourage them to resign by the end of September or face layoffs as part of a major federal workforce reduction.

The proposal has caused confusion and alarm among civil servants of various profiles, but it has particularly deeply affected forest firefighters, the publication writes.

It is noted that many of the firefighters have only just begun to recover from fighting the devastating fire in California.

A spokesman for the National Federation of Federal Employees told the newspaper that the letters had undermined workers' morale, while firefighters themselves called the proposal a slap in the face.

Let us recall that the fires in California began on January 7 and have become the largest in the history of the state. The authorities estimate the damage from the fires at hundreds of billions of dollars. At least 25 people have died in the devastating fires.
