Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section is a legendary studio project of session musicians, one of the most popular in the USA in the 1960s-1980s. During their career, they made more than 500 records, including 75 gold and platinum hits.
The group created a signature "Muscle Shoals sound" focusing primarily on "black music" (soul, R&B), with black performers often being surprised to find the band members were all white.
One of the group's most important sessions was with Aretha Franklin in 1967. Other high-profile releases include Bob Seger's Mainstreet in 1976 and Paul Simon's Kodachrome in 1973.
Junior played bass on a number of classic Muscle Shoals tracks.
As AL writes, the cause of the musician's death at the age of 85 was a stroke.
