He recalled that before government measures aimed at eradicating banditry in the country, schools were "recruiting centres" for criminal groups.
"Disciplinary measures in schools should prevent a repeat of this tragedy," he noted on the social network X (formerly Twitter, blocked in Russia).
Bukele stressed that despite the criticism, educational institutions will teach children to show respect and courtesy when interacting with teachers, administrative staff and other students.
The new school rules were previously announced by the new Minister of Education of the Republic, Carla Trigueros, a captain and army doctor. According to the new regulations, schools will conduct daily checks of students – their uniforms and haircuts, which must meet the established standards. In addition, rules of politeness are being introduced in Salvadoran schools: students must greet, thank and add the word "please" when making requests.
