Based on the results of the tournament in Yekaterinburg, a team will be formed that will compete in the World Championship under the auspices of the International Boxing Association (IBA) in November of this year.
How would you rate the competition in the ring? Did the selection status affect the course of the tournament?
Evgeny Tishchenko: Yes, this championship is one of the strongest. Previous tournaments were inferior in terms of the intensity of the fight, since some leaders missed them. But all the top players came to Yekaterinburg, and the competition was very serious. Even before the semi-final stage, we saw how the current champions were eliminated. The judges' work was not easy.
Did record-high prize money serve as an incentive for boxers?
Evgeny Tishchenko: There are many Olympic champions from previous years here. We competed in national championships without prize money. And it was a completely different organization. Now the Russian Boxing Federation is developing in a different direction. Boxers have so many opportunities. And the prize fund of 130 million rubles, announced by Umar Nazarovich Kremlev (head of the IBA – RG note ), provides great motivation. Especially for those who are participating in the Russian Championship for the first time. They not only get into the national team, but also receive financial benefits.
Vyacheslav Rogozin is from the younger generation and has already been recognized as the best boxer of the championship…
Evgeny Tishchenko: I'm happy for Slava, I met him recently. He became a champion, took revenge on his rival Max Kuznetsov, to whom he lost at the National Cup (in the weight category up to 54 kg – RG note ). This is cool. I wish him success. May his youthful enthusiasm never fade. And may he perform well at the World Championship.
Was the ticket to the World Championship also a good motivation for the participants?
Evgeny Tishchenko: Of course. But in general, for us, boxers, the Russian championship is one of the most important starts. Sometimes even more memorable than international starts. All the guys who were champions and prize winners remember their victories and medals as if it were yesterday.
