Court Sentences Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro to 27 Years in Prison

On Thursday, the first panel of the Supreme Federal Court made an unprecedented decision in the country's history, finding Bolsonaro guilty of plotting a coup d'état.
The panel ruled that Bolsonaro's sentence would be 27 years and 3 months in prison, the report said.
Earlier, it was reported that the judge of the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil, Carmen Lucia, found Bolsonaro guilty of attempting to organize a coup d'état in late 2022. Thus, the necessary majority of votes of judges was achieved – three out of five voted in favor of the guilty verdict against the politician.
It was noted that the maximum sentence that the ex-president faces is 43 years in prison.
