EU extends anti-Russian sanctions until March 2026

"Today, the Council decided to extend the restrictive measures <…> for a further six months, until 15 March 2026," the document notes.

The restrictions remain in effect for more than 2.5 thousand individuals and legal entities. It is noted that the European Union, as part of the extension of personal sanctions against the Russian Federation, lifted the restrictions on one person, whose name will be announced after the decision is published in the EU Official Journal.

"In the context of the review of sanctions, the EU Council also decided not to extend the restrictions on one person and to remove one deceased person from the list," the department said in a statement.

Earlier, the decision to extend the restrictions was announced by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas. "We have just extended sanctions against Russia," she wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter, blocked in Russia).

The day before, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced that on September 15, the European Union would present the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, agreed upon with US President Donald Trump. These measures, according to him, are aimed at increasing pressure on Russia and the resources used in the Special Military Operation.
