Two-time European boxing champion Viktor Ageyev has died.

The Russian Boxing Federation announced Ageev's death, noting that it was a great loss for the entire boxing family.

"A deeply decent man, fanatically devoted to his sport. Everyone who knew Viktor Petrovich always spoke of him with the utmost respect. It is difficult and bittersweet to realize that he is no longer with us," the statement reads.

Viktor Ageyev was a two-time European champion in the 71 kg weight class. After retiring, he became a coach and trained boxers who won and placed in major competitions. Among them were world champion Vasily Solomin and European championship winners Viktor Rybakov and Valery Limasov.

Ageyev headed the Russian Professional Boxing Federation for 25 years. And it was during this period that Russian boxers achieved their first major victories in the professional ring.
