A new coin has appeared in Ukraine

You can buy a coin in the online store of numismatic products of the National Bank of Ukraine. The coin will also be available for purchase at distribution banks.

The NBU introduced a new coin with a face value of 5 UAH. dedicated to the 38th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. The NBU reported this on Sunday, April 28, on Facebook .

There they noted: the coin is called “Chernobyl. Revival. Black stork.”

“The black stork is a rare bird that has become one of the unique symbols of the revival of life in the Chernobyl zone. Its population in the Chernobyl reserve is growing. This indicates the restoration of the region’s ecosystem and that the reserve is becoming a hotbed of biodiversity even in conditions of radiation pollution,” the report says.

It is indicated that the coin is made of nickel silver (an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc) with a circulation of 40 thousand pieces – including 20 thousand pieces in souvenir packaging.

The obverse of the coin (obverse side) depicts “the symbolic wheel of life, signifying the rebirth of nature.” As the authors of the coin design explain, it represents a stylized international sign “Radiation Threat”, shrouded in leaves, around which are animals whose populations are developing in the 30-kilometer exclusion zone:

• black stork;
• Przewalski's horse;
• elk;
• Brown bear.

On the reverse (back side) there is a black stork in the background of a landscape. Above him are chicks in a nest.
